Privacy
It hears a key move. Never what you typed.
thockmac needs Input Monitoring to hear key presses system-wide. It only listens: it can’t type, click or read the screen, and all it keeps are counts, on your Mac.
Silent in password fields and other secure input.
Turn the permission off in System Settings and it simply goes quiet.
The only network calls: your trial or licence check, and the live map if you switch it on.

Why this exists
Built by ear, not by folder.
Most typing-sound apps play one file per key. We wanted the board you remember.
A sound that starts late feels like lag, even when you can’t say why. So every voice in thockmac is trimmed to start on the hit: no silence in front of it, and about 12 ms from your finger to your ears.
A real board is never one sound repeated. The space bar rattles, the number row is brighter, keys on the left come from the left. We model each of those, then pick a fresh variant on every press so a long paragraph never turns into a drum machine.
And it has to be invisible the rest of the time. No CPU when you’re not typing, no window, no Dock icon, quiet on calls, and one shortcut to make it all go away.

How do I get typing sounds on a Mac?
Install a menu bar app that plays a sound for each key you press. thockmac does exactly that, in every app, on a MacBook keyboard or any external one, on macOS Sonoma 14 or later. You can hear several switches in the playground above first.
Does it work in every app?
Yes. It listens at the system level, so it sounds the same in your editor, browser, Slack, Terminal and Spotlight. It never changes, delays or swallows a keystroke: it only listens.
Why does it need Input Monitoring?
It’s the macOS permission for any app that hears key presses outside its own window. It’s read-only: thockmac can’t type, click or see your screen, and it goes silent in password fields. Turn it off in System Settings and the app simply goes quiet.
How does the free trial work?
Click Start trial in the app: every Pro feature unlocks for 3 days, no card needed, one trial per Mac. When the 3 days are up, the app signs out of the trial by itself and you’re back on Free with three switches. Buy any time to keep Pro; your settings and recordings stay.
What’s the launch price?

Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 7 days of purchase if thockmac doesn’t work as described on your Mac. Email us what’s happening; once we’ve confirmed the issue and can’t fix it for you, we refund in full. Refunds aren’t for a change of mind: that’s what the free trial is for.
Is anything I type recorded or sent anywhere?
No. A key event picks a sound and is gone. For your stats it counts how many times each key is pressed per day (for your heat map), never the order, so nothing you type can be pieced back together. The app talks to the internet only to check your trial or licence, and to send counts to the live map if you switch that on.
Will it slow my Mac down?
No. Sounds are loaded into memory once, so a keystroke costs one buffer play, about 12 ms from key to ear. When you’re not typing it uses no CPU.
Are the browser sounds the same as the app?
The playground synthesizes 9 switches in your browser so you can compare feels. The app plays the same tuned voices with lower latency, plus 23 switches recorded from real keyboards.
Can I use it on more than one Mac?
Yes. One licence works on up to 2 Macs. Each Mac also gets its own free trial.
