Buy hushtype, then download it: the page after checkout has a Download button, and the licence key in your order email unlocks the download here whenever you need it. macOS Sonoma 14 or later.

The download comes with your purchase: the licence key in your order email unlocks it, as often as you need.
How buying works
- Buy once ($11.99 at launch until 18 November 2026, 18:30 UTC, then $21.99) on the checkout page. It handles your card and tax and emails you a receipt with your licence key.
- The thank-you page you land on shows the same key with a Copy button and a Download button. The address it opens with carries the key; the page reads it, then removes it from the address bar.
- Download any time later with the box above, or with Settings › Licence › Download the latest version in the app. Each request checks the key is paid and not refunded, then gives a link that works for 10 minutes. Ask as often as you like (up to 20 times an hour).
- Unlock the app by pasting the same key under “Bought already? Enter your licence key” in the menu bar. One key works on 2 Macs; sign out of one in Settings › Licence to move it.
- Refunds within 7 days for verified problems turn the key off: it no longer downloads or unlocks hushtype. See the refund policy.
Install guide
Screens are from macOS 15 Sequoia; Sonoma 14 looks almost the same. Every step is also written out, so you can follow it without the pictures.
Step 1
Download hushtype
Right after checkout the thank-you page has a Download button; any time later, enter your licence key in the box above. Your browser saves hushtype.dmg to Downloads.
Step 2
Drag hushtype to Applications
Double-click the file in Downloads. A window opens with hushtype and your Applications folder; drag hushtype onto Applications, then eject the disk image.
Step 3
Open it once and click Done
Open hushtype from Applications. It isn't notarised by Apple yet, so macOS shows “hushtype” Not Opened. Click Done, not Move to Bin.
Step 4
Privacy & Security › Open Anyway
Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, click Open Anyway next to “hushtype”, confirm, and enter your password or use Touch ID. You only do this once.
Step 5
Allow Microphone, Speech Recognition and Accessibility
The welcome window explains each one and has an Allow button. Microphone and Speech Recognition let it hear you and write what you said, on this Mac. Accessibility lets it notice your dictation key and type into the app you are using. It never types into password fields. If macOS also lists hushtype under Input Monitoring, allow that too; we have not confirmed whether your macOS asks. Meeting notes also ask for Screen Recording, only to hear system sound; it never captures the picture. Reminders and Calendar are asked only if you use the follow-up buttons.
Step 6
Activate your licence key
The welcome window ends at Activate your licence. Paste the key from your order email and click Activate. One licence works on 2 Macs: enter the same key on the other one.
Step 7
Hold Right Option and speak
Click in any text field, hold Right Option, say a sentence and let go. A small pill at the bottom of the screen shows that it is listening. If nothing happens, check Accessibility and Input Monitoring (step 5), and the key in Settings.
Step 8
Uninstall (if you ever need to)
Quit hushtype from its menu bar icon and drag it from Applications to the Bin. To remove its history, stats and words as well, delete ~/Library/Application Support/hushtype.
Why the extra step?
hushtype isn't notarised by Apple yet, so macOS asks you to allow it once. After that it opens like any other app. It goes online only for your licence and, if you choose it, a one-time download of the accurate engine, and never sends what you say or write. Details are in the privacy policy.
Before you start
- A Mac running macOS Sonoma 14 or later. There is no Windows, Linux, iPhone or web version.
- For Wi-Fi-off use, the on-device speech model for your language: System Settings › Keyboard › Dictation.
- One licence key works on 2 Macs. Install on the second Mac the same way and enter the same key.
If something goes wrong
- No Open Anyway button in Privacy & Security: open hushtype once from Applications first; the button appears after macOS has refused it.
- The download link says it has expired: links last 10 minutes. Enter your key above to make a new one.
- The menu says Locked: enter your licence key in Settings › Licence.
