Nothing is typed when I speak

• Open the hushtype menu bar icon and check it says Ready, not Locked.
• In System Settings › Privacy & Security, check Microphone, Speech Recognition and Accessibility are on for hushtype.
• Check the app has a Rule for the app you are in (Settings › Rules); password fields are always skipped.
• For your language, the Mac needs its on-device speech model: System Settings › Keyboard › Dictation.

It types in some apps but not others

• Pasting works in most apps. Games and remote desktops tend to ignore it, and some apps do not take Accessibility insertion. Tell us which app and we will look.
• Check the app is not on your do-not-dictate list, and that quiet hours, a call or a Focus is not pausing it (Settings › Rules).
• Password fields are always skipped.

Dictation does not start when I hold the key

• Check Accessibility is on for hushtype. If macOS also lists hushtype under Input Monitoring, turn that on too.
• Check the key in Settings is the one you are holding (Right Option by default).

Text did not appear, or it said nothing was recognised

If typing failed, the cleaned text is waiting under Unsent text in the menu: Copy it from there. Audio is never kept, so a failed recognition cannot be replayed; say it again.

Meeting notes have no sound from the other side

Allow Screen Recording for hushtype in System Settings › Privacy & Security. macOS files system-sound capture under it; the app never captures the picture. Use headphones to avoid repeated lines.

My language is not recognised

The Mac needs the on-device speech model for it (System Settings › Keyboard › Dictation), and the recogniser listens in one language at a time: set it for the app in Settings › Rules.

Moving or sharing words

Export your dictionary and snippets from Settings, or import a list from another dictation app as CSV, TSV, JSON, a plain list or lines like a -> b. If a file does not import, send it to us and we will add the format.

Using it on another Mac

One licence works on 2 Macs. Open hushtype there, enter the same key and click Activate. To move a Mac, email us.
