Why atrium

Spaces shouldn't need a workaround.

Mission Control and Spaces on macOS 27 have well-known problems, and many of them are still reported on 27.0.1 and the 27.2 betas. If you rely on desktops to keep work, chat and everything else apart, that gets in the way all day.

What people run into on macOS 27

  • Dragging a window to another Space stutters.
  • Apps forget which Space they belong to.
  • Desktops turn black or blank after a switch.
  • Thumbnails go missing in Mission Control.
  • A second display makes it worse.
  • Space shortcuts stop until the Dock is restarted.

atrium sidesteps all of it: your desktops are its own, kept on one Space. It works the same on macOS 14, 15, 26 and 27.

How it works

Simple on purpose.

No setup file, no tiling rules to learn. atrium does one job: it keeps your desktops, and it keeps them reliable.

  1. 01

Your desktops live on one Space

atrium keeps its own list of desktops instead of asking macOS for Spaces. Every desktop lives on the Space you're already on, so nothing depends on Mission Control.

  2. 02

    Switching moves windows, not screens

When you switch, atrium tucks the old desktop's windows just past the bottom-right corner of the screen and puts the new desktop's windows back exactly where you left them. There's no slide to wait for.

  3. 03

    Only standard macOS permissions

It moves windows through Accessibility, the same way any window tool does. No private interfaces, no turning off System Integrity Protection, no changes to the Dock.

  4. 04

    Windows always come back

atrium saves where every window belongs as you go. If it quits, crashes or your Mac restarts, every window it tucked away comes back on screen.

Questions

Straight answers.

How is atrium different from macOS Spaces?

atrium keeps its own list of desktops instead of using Spaces. All of them live on your current Space: when you switch, atrium tucks the old desktop's windows out of sight and puts the new desktop's windows back exactly where they were. It doesn't use Mission Control at all, so its problems don't reach atrium.

What's wrong with Mission Control and Spaces on macOS 27?

Many people on macOS 27 report slow, stuttering window drags between Spaces, apps forgetting which Space they belong to, black or blank desktops after a switch, missing thumbnails, trouble with more than one display, and Space shortcuts that stop working until the Dock is restarted. Reports continue on 27.0.1 and the 27.2 betas. atrium works the same on macOS 14 to 27 because it doesn't depend on any of that.

Does it need me to turn off System Integrity Protection?

No. atrium uses only the standard Accessibility features of macOS to read and move windows. It doesn't need SIP turned off, doesn't use private interfaces and doesn't change the Dock.

Why does atrium need Accessibility?

Accessibility is how a Mac app is allowed to see and move other apps' windows, which is all atrium does. It's required. atrium never reads what's inside your windows and never records what you type.

What is Screen Recording used for?

Only for live thumbnails of your windows in the overview, and it's optional. Without it the overview shows each window's app icon and title instead. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent anywhere.

What happens to my windows if atrium quits or crashes?

They come back. atrium saves which window is on which desktop as you go, and when it quits, crashes or your Mac restarts, every window it had tucked away is put back on screen. “Show all windows” in the menu does the same at any time.

What about full-screen apps?

atrium leaves full-screen windows and windows on other macOS Spaces alone. The overview lists them as “outside atrium” so you can still find them.

Does it tile my windows?

No. atrium keeps windows exactly where you put them. It's about desktops, not layouts.

Which Macs does it run on?

macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It's made for macOS 27 and works just as well on 14, 15 and 26.

How much is it, and is there a trial?

$9.99 once at launch (the first 14 days), then $14.99. One licence works on 2 Macs, with no subscription and no account. There's no free trial: if atrium doesn't work for you, ask for a refund within 7 days.

Where can I get it?

Only from tealmac.com/atrium. Moving other apps' windows isn't possible from inside the Mac App Store's sandbox, so atrium is sold and downloaded directly.

Does atrium collect any data?

No. There's no account, no analytics in the app and no tracking. It goes online only to activate or check your licence and to look for updates. Your desktops and rules stay on your Mac.
