Install atrium
About two minutes, start to finish. Every step is written out, so you can follow it without the pictures. The screens are drawn, and may look slightly different on your version of macOS (macOS 14+).
Step 1
Download atrium
Buy atrium, then use the Download button on the thank-you page. Any time later, enter your licence key on the download page to get it again.
Open atrium.dmg from your Downloads folder and drag atrium onto Applications. Then eject the disk image.
Step 2
Open it
Open atrium from Applications. A short welcome explains what it does.
If macOS says it can't open atrium, open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to Security and click Open Anyway next to atrium, then confirm. You only do this once.
Step 3
Allow Accessibility (required)
atrium needs Accessibility to see and move other apps' windows. Click Open System Settings in atrium's welcome window and switch atrium on under Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
The welcome window checks it live and moves on by itself as soon as it's allowed. atrium never reads what's inside your windows or what you type.
Step 4
Allow Screen Recording (optional)
Only for live thumbnails in the overview. Switch atrium on under Privacy & Security › Screen Recording (called Screen & System Audio Recording on newer macOS), or click Skip.
Without it, the overview shows each window's app icon and title instead. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent. You can change your mind later in atrium's Settings.
Step 5
Pick your desktops and shortcuts
atrium offers four desktops to start: Main, Work, Chat and Focus. Keep them, rename them or add more (up to 16).
Check the shortcuts: ⌃1 to ⌃9 switch desktops and ⌃⌘↑ opens the overview. Every shortcut can be recorded again in Settings.
Step 6
Activate your licence key
Paste the licence key from your order email and click Activate. One key works on 2 Macs. There's no trial: until a key is activated, atrium shows only this screen.
If windows ever seem to be missing
atrium tucks the windows of other desktops just past the bottom-right corner of the screen. They are never closed. Choose Show all windows from atrium's menu bar menu, or open atrium://show-all, and every window comes back on screen. Quitting atrium does the same.
Uninstall
Quit atrium from its menu bar menu (every window comes back on screen), then drag it from Applications to the Bin. To remove its settings and saved desktops too, delete ~/Library/Application Support/atrium. To move your licence to another Mac, deactivate it in atrium's Settings first.
