atrium · Features

Every feature, explained.

All 14 features in atrium 1.0, in plain words. Every one of them works without Mission Control or Spaces.

Every day

Desktops, switching and keeping apps in their place.

01

Named desktops

Up to 16 desktops, each with its own name, symbol and colour.

  • Start with Main, Work, Chat and Focus, or make your own.
  • Add, rename and reorder desktops whenever you like.
  • Delete one and its windows move to the desktop next to it, so nothing is lost.

02

Instant switching

Control and a number goes straight to that desktop.

  • Control-1 to Control-9 jump to a desktop. Every shortcut can be changed.
  • Control-Command-Left and Control-Command-Right step to the previous and next desktop, with optional wrap-around.
  • Control-` goes back to the desktop you were just on.
  • No slide animation to sit through: windows are simply where they should be.

Default shortcuts: ⌃1⌃⌘→⌃`

03

Send windows anywhere

Move the front window to another desktop with one shortcut, or drag it in the overview.

  • Control-Shift and a number sends the focused window to that desktop.
  • Choose whether you follow the window or stay where you are.
  • In the overview, drag a window onto another desktop.

Default shortcuts: ⌃⇧2

04

Apps stay where you put them

Give an app a home desktop and its new windows open there.

  • “Always open Mail on Chat.” New windows of that app go to its desktop.
  • Choose “Assign to this desktop” from the menu bar for the app in front.
  • See and edit every rule in one list in Settings.

05

An overview of every window

One key shows all your desktops and their windows. Type to find any window.

  • Control-Command-Up (or a hot corner) opens a full-screen view: your desktops along the top, the selected desktop's windows below.
  • Arrow keys move between desktops; Return switches.
  • Start typing to filter windows across every desktop, then press Return to jump to the match.
  • Close a window, quit its app or minimise it right there with the usual shortcuts. Esc closes the overview.

Default shortcuts: ⌃⌘↑ReturnEsc

Dependable

The parts you notice only when they're missing.

07

Works with more than one display

Each display can have its own desktops, or they can share one set.

  • “Displays have separate desktops” is on by default.
  • Windows remember which display they belong to.

08

Nothing gets lost

atrium saves your desktops as you go and always puts hidden windows back.

  • Which window is on which desktop, and where, is saved continuously.
  • When atrium quits, crashes or the Mac restarts, every hidden window comes back on screen.
  • “Show all windows” in the menu brings everything back at any time.

09

Minimised and hidden apps behave

Minimised windows stay on their desktop; hidden apps stay hidden.

  • A minimised window keeps its desktop and shows in the overview with a badge.
  • Apps you hide with Command-H are left hidden.

10

Set up in a minute

Four short steps, with a plain explanation of each permission.

  • What atrium does, then Accessibility with a live check, then optional Screen Recording, then your desktops and shortcuts.
  • Each permission says exactly what it is used for, and what works without it.

Yours

Paid once, controlled your way, usable by everyone.

11

Pay once, no account

One licence key for 2 Macs. No sign-up, no subscription.

  • Paste the key from your order email and atrium unlocks.
  • There is no trial and no free tier: before activation atrium shows only its activation screen.
  • The only times it goes online are to activate or check the licence and to look for updates.

12

Shortcuts and links

Drive atrium from the Shortcuts app, scripts and links.

  • Shortcuts actions: “Switch to desktop” and “Move front window to desktop”.
  • Links: atrium://desktop/2, atrium://overview and atrium://show-all.

13

Built to be used by everyone

Full keyboard control, VoiceOver labels everywhere, high contrast and Reduce Motion.

  • Everything, including the overview, works from the keyboard.
  • Every control has a VoiceOver label.
  • atrium follows Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion.

14

In English, ready for more

English at launch. Every word in the app is ready to translate.

  • atrium's text lives in one String Catalog, so more languages can follow.
