Frequently asked
Apple removed Launchpad in macOS 26 Tahoe and replaced it with an Apps view inside Spotlight. That view sorts your apps for you: you can't make your own folders or put an app where you want it. keytide brings the full-screen grid back, with your folders and your arrangement.
Yes. If your Mac still has the Launchpad layout from before the upgrade, the welcome tour offers to import it and rebuilds your pages and folders in the same order. Using another launcher already? keytide can read its layout, or a backup file it exported, from Settings › General. Nothing is changed in the original, and starting fresh works too: keytide sorts your apps into folders by category.
Any way you like: the global hotkey (⌥Space by default, change it in Settings), the Dock icon, the small launcher in the menu bar, or the keytide card in the hovernotch notch, or the F4 / Launchpad key, a hot corner, or a pinch on the trackpad (experimental). Press Esc or click outside the grid to close it.
A set of apps, files, folders and web links that open together, each window placed where you want it. Pick “Code” and your editor, terminal and browser open tiled side by side; pick “Write” and you get your notes and sources instead. keytide can quit or hide the previous workspace's apps, or leave them alone.
Yes. Besides the grid and its own hotkey, a workspace can start on a schedule, when a Focus turns on (through a Shortcuts automation), or when you plug in a display. There are Shortcuts actions and keytide:// links too, so anything that runs a shortcut can open one.
Everything: the full-screen grid, your own folders and arrangement, instant typo-proof search, suggested apps, the menu bar launcher, right-click quick actions, importing from Launchpad or another launcher, workspaces with window layouts, snapshots and focus sessions, triggers, auto folders, layout history, keyboard letter hints, F4 and hot corners, uninstall with leftovers, and hiding and renaming apps. Plus the features only keytide has: Ask keytide, auto-workspaces, the desk time machine, the tide grid, shake and voice to open, Focus filters, and Siri & Spotlight. There are no tiers.
Type ? in keytide's search and say what you're about to do (“set me up for a client call”). keytide proposes a workspace: the apps, any links you mentioned and a window layout; Return runs it, ⌘S saves it. With Apple Intelligence on, the on-device model works out what the task needs and keytide's own index picks your installed apps, so it never invents one; otherwise keytide matches your words to what your apps do. Either way it runs on your Mac and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Only which app opened and roughly when: the app's ID, the day and a five-minute time slot, kept for six weeks on your Mac. Never window titles, documents or anything inside an app. When the same three or more apps open together on three different days, keytide suggests a workspace. Turn learning off, or delete everything with Forget learned habits, in Settings › Smart.
Every 15 minutes while you're active (and just before a workspace opens or a restore), which apps are open or hidden, where their windows are and which workspace is active. No window titles or contents. Seven days are kept, then deleted, and Delete desk history in Settings › Smart removes it all. Window positions need Accessibility; without it, only the apps are noted.
No. Voice is off until you turn it on. Then keytide listens only while you hold the voice shortcut (⌃⌥K by default), recognises speech on your Mac, and never saves or sends the audio. It needs Microphone and Speech Recognition permission, asked for only when you switch it on. Shaking the pointer to open the grid needs no permission at all.
Yes. In System Settings › Focus, pick a Focus, then Focus filters › Add Filter › keytide, and choose folders, workspaces, or only one workspace's apps. While that Focus is on, the grid, the workspace bar, the menus and ⌘1–9 show just that; ⌘0 shows everything. When the Focus ends, everything comes back.
There's no free trial: keytide stays locked until you activate a licence key, on 1 Mac per key. The live demo on this page is a working miniature of the grid and workspaces, so you can get a feel for it first, and if keytide doesn't work as described on your Mac, the refund policy covers you.
It's a one-time purchase, not a subscription. At launch, until 4 Nov, it is $5.99; after that $13.99. One licence is for 1 Mac, and you can move it to another Mac from Settings › Licence.
macOS 26 Tahoe or later, on Apple silicon and Intel. That's where Launchpad is gone; earlier macOS versions still have it.
No. keytide is sold only from tealmac.com, as a direct download. That keeps the price low and lets keytide do the things a launcher needs, such as reading your old Launchpad layout and placing windows.
No. There's no telemetry and no analytics. Your grid, folders, workspaces and usage counts (for “most used” sorting) stay on your Mac. keytide goes online only to check your licence and for updates.
App names (typos are fine), or what an app does: “edit photos”, “web browser”, “open pdf”. Sums like 12*7+1 show the answer; press Return to copy it. Start with a colon for emoji (:rocket) and click one to copy it. Matching files from your home folder show up underneath, with Quick Look, Show in Finder, Copy and Move to Trash.
Yes. The Shortcuts app has Show keytide, Open Workspace, Start Focus Session, Close Workspace, Ask keytide and Open Desk Time Machine actions, and Siri understands “Open my Coding workspace in keytide”. Your workspaces and folders also show up in Spotlight. Settings › General installs a small keytide command (keytide workspace Coding, keytide focus Coding 50, keytide search notes), and keytide:// links work from anywhere that opens a URL.
No, keytide sticks to launching apps and setting up workspaces. Our other apps cover the rest: pinhole for screenshots and hovernotch for clipboard history in the notch. hovernotch can open keytide and show your current workspace from the notch.
Yes, within 7 days of purchase if keytide doesn't work as described on your Mac and we can't fix it. A change of mind about a licence that works as described isn't covered.
Another app may already use it. Open keytide › Settings › Opening and record a different shortcut. ⌥Space also clashes with some input-source switchers; if so, pick another or turn that macOS shortcut off in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts.
Check that it's switched on in keytide › Settings › Opening, and that the matching trackpad gesture isn't assigned to something else in System Settings › Trackpad › More Gestures.
Window layouts need Accessibility. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and switch keytide on (or off and on again after an update).
Right-click the keytide icon in the menu bar, choose keytide Pro…, paste the key under “Have a licence key?” and click Activate.
Search your inbox for the email from Dodo Payments, or write to hello@tealmac.com from your order email and we'll resend it.
Quit keytide from its menu bar icon, then drag it from Applications to the Bin. To remove your layouts and workspaces too, delete ~/Library/Application Support/keytide. If you have a licence, deactivate it first in Settings › Licence so you can use it on another Mac.
