Features
One window, from any of your Macs.
Single windows or whole displays
Choose the other Mac from oriel's menu bar icon and you see its windows by app, with their titles. Pick one and it opens on your Mac as its own window, to move and resize like any other.
Want the whole screen instead? Choose a display, and it opens as one window you can resize like any other.
Native, sharp, up to 120 fps
A beamed window is a real window on your Mac. Type, click, scroll and drag in it as you would on the other Mac; shortcuts go to the app you're looking at.
It's drawn at your display's full Retina resolution and runs at up to 120 frames a second when both Macs and the network keep up.
Several Macs on one desktop
Open a terminal from the Mac mini, a render preview from the Mac Studio and a chat from the MacBook Air, all at once, next to your own apps.
Start apps on the other Mac
The Apps tab lists what's installed on the other Mac, with the ones already open at the top. Click one and oriel starts it there and opens its window here, so a Mac mini with no screen is never more than a click away.
Apps you've hidden, and password managers, are never listed and can't be started from another Mac.
Quick Open from anywhere
Quick Open searches every window on every connected Mac at once. It works from any app, and it needs no extra permissions.
Starred windows and automatic reconnect
Star the windows you use every day. Whenever that Mac connects, they open on their own, in the same place on your screen.
If a Mac drops off (it slept, or you changed networks), oriel keeps trying for about two minutes and reopens the windows you had open.
Wake a sleeping Mac
oriel remembers how to reach each Mac it has connected to. When one is asleep on the same network, click Wake and connect a few seconds later. The Mac needs Wake for network access turned on in its own settings.
Data saver, live stats and keep on top
Data saver keeps each window to 30 frames a second and at most 4 Mbit/s, for hotel Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot. Best never drops below 60 frames a second.
Turn on the stats in any shared window to see its frame rate, bandwidth, delay and resolution. Pin a window to keep it on top, on every desktop, like picture-in-picture.
Control-Option-Command-P stops sharing your Mac at once, from any app.
Per-app audio
Only that app's sound comes over, not the whole Mac's, and it plays through whatever your Mac is using: speakers, headphones or AirPods.
Clipboard sync and file drop
While a window is open, what you copy on one Mac can be pasted on the other, in either direction.
Drag files from your Finder onto a beamed window and they're sent to the other Mac, ready for the app in that window.
Headless Mac mini and Mac Studio
Set up oriel on the Mac mini once (with a display, or over macOS Screen Sharing), paste your licence key, and unplug the display. Its windows show up on your other Macs whenever it's on.
Stay put, Fluid and Send over
Each beamed window has a mode. It decides what happens to the window on the Mac it comes from.
Stay put
The window stays on the other Mac and keeps working there, so anyone at that Mac sees what you do. Good for helping someone, or a Mac on a desk across the room.
Fluid
The window on the other Mac is resized to match yours, pixel for pixel. Nothing is scaled, so text stays crisp at any size you pick.
Send over
The window leaves the other Mac's screen and lives on yours until you send it back.
Requirements
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later on both Macs, Apple silicon and Intel.
- oriel on both Macs. Sharing is free; viewing needs a licence after the 3-day trial.
- The same network, or Tailscale for Macs in different places. See the Tailscale guide.
