Privacy

Short version: your windows never pass through our servers. oriel talks to us only to check your licence, and a share link's relay carries encrypted bytes it can't read. Neither the app nor this site runs analytics, ads or trackers.

Between your Macs

Your Macs find each other on your local network (Bonjour) or reach each other over Tailscale, and connect directly. Everything they exchange (the picture, sound, your clicks and keystrokes, the clipboard and files you drop) is end-to-end encrypted: an X25519 key exchange, then ChaCha20-Poly1305 for every message. Each Mac has its own identity key, and a Mac you pair with is remembered, so a different device can't pose as it.

None of this goes through tealmac. We never receive your windows, what you type, your clipboard or your files, and we couldn't read them if we did.

What is never shared: password managers and hidden windows are never listed for sharing, and you can hide any other app in Settings. Clipboard sync and file drop work only while a window from that Mac is open.

Share links

A share link shows one window in a web browser, so it needs a relay to reach someone outside your network. When you make a link, the app asks our server for a room (sending your licence token, the link's duration, whether control is allowed and the window's title) and gets back an address. The app then makes a random 256-bit key and puts it after the # in the link. Browsers never send that part to a server, so the relay never has it.

Every frame is encrypted with that key (AES-256-GCM) before it leaves your Mac and decrypted only in your guest's browser. The relay forwards encrypted bytes, keeps nothing, and closes the room when the link expires (1 hour to 7 days) or when you end it. Anyone who has the whole link can watch while it lasts, so send it only to people you mean to.

Your licence

To start the free trial and to check a licence, the app sends our server the licence key (if you have one) and a device ID that is a one-way SHA-256 hash of your Mac's hardware ID, never the ID itself. That is how one licence covers 3 Macs without an account. With a licence we also keep the order email our payment provider gives us.

This website

No analytics, no advertising, no cookies. The site stores your light or dark theme choice in your browser, and asks our server for the current price. Two things are counted, without anything that identifies you: a click on a Buy button, and the note shown to visitors on a computer that isn't a Mac. Each count carries only the app name, which of the two it was and the page path.

Downloads are counted with the time, the city and country estimated from the connection and your browser and system type. Your IP address is not stored.

Payments

Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments as merchant of record. They email your licence key; we never see your card details.
